Something to Delight Your Eyes

This picture is called "Henry V and His Troops Pray for Victory Over the French Before the Battle of Agincourt" by Joseph Kronheim. This fellow did a whole series of paintings on this battle, and the troops of the French and the British, as well as other interesting points in British history. They're actually quite nice. I love art almost as much as I love music. You'll be getting more art and music along the way.

Oooh, lovely! Thanks for posting--looking at a visual representation always makes the plain text easier to read.
There's so much that can be said and done with visual representations, so thanks for posting the Kronheim painting of Henry V. But where did you find it? Does the artist or anyone else talk about the painting or its relationship to the play? I was looking at the Folger Shakespeare Library website and noticed they had a book of prints done of Shakespeare's plays. That would be fun to find in the library.
I think this is beautiful! I feel it really captures how the king and his men were feeling right before going into battle. They were leaving everything up to God, and I really think it makes Henry seem more human, rather than just a great historical and military leader. It reminds me of the scene where Henry is pretending to be a commoner when he describes himself "but a man," that just like any other man he has his fears. This painting makes me remember that before God, everyone is equal, something I'm sure Henry's army was thinking at the Battle of Agincourt.
